Nature is constantly doing cool shit we rarely see, or barely think about. This almanac documents where and when — the exact dates where an exact date exists, and an honest likelihood where it doesn't.

What the markers mean

A hollow marker is live-monitored — it appears only while a feed flags it. Solid markers have calculated dates, known years out.

How to read the globe

Shape is the category, fill is what kind of prediction sits behind it. Tap a marker for the detail card; tap an eclipse to draw its actual path of totality, then tap anywhere along it for the local duration. The filmstrip along the bottom runs in date order — tapping a card flies the globe to it.

Arrow keys move between markers and turn the planet when you reach the horizon, so every marker is reachable without a mouse.

Where the data comes from

Eclipses are computed here in the browser from Besselian elements, not looked up — which is why you can click a point and get a real duration. Meteor showers, coral spawning and the sky-event calendar are computed the same way. Aurora and volcanic activity are live feeds (NOAA SWPC, USGS, Smithsonian GVP) and are only as current as their publishers.

Teal events are pulled live from public monitoring feeds and reflect whatever those feeds most recently reported.
